First of all, to lessen the perplexity of your brain, let me straightaway tell you who L. Frank Baum was.
Have you heard about the famous Wizard of Oz? Or ummm..the adventures of Dorothy and her dog Toto?
I’m sure, a lot of you would have.
He is the author of the famous children’s book THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ.
If you don’t know what the book is about then let me just give you a brief summary.
Dorothy and Toto, her dog, one day lands upon a mysterious land. She would be living in Kansas with her aunt and uncle but one day, suddenly, a cyclone around her home, made them appear in such an unknown land. In order to reach back again to her home, Dorothy, the little girl had to kill The Witch of the West with her new interesting friends out of the order of the Wizard of Oz.
How Dorothy does this adventure and what all things happen can be unraveled only when you read this book.

- At the age of 12, he spent two years in Peekskill Military Academy, but after being severely disciplined for daydreaming, he had a possibly psychogenic heart attack and was allowed to return home.
- At 20, he specialized in raising Hamburg Chicken.
- Baum’s description of Kansas in The Wizard of Oz is based on his experiences in drought-ridden South Dakota.
- In 1905, Baum declared plans for an Oz amusement park. In an interview, he mentioned buying Pedloe Island off the coast of California to turn it into an Oz Park. However, there is no evidence that he purchased such an island & no one has ever been able to find any island whose name even resembles Pedloe in that area.
- 5 May, 1919, Baum suffered a stroke. His last words to his wife were “Now we can cross the shifting sands.”
